Dematerialization of shares

Dematerialization of shares is the process of converting the physical shares into the electronic form and transferring them into the Demat account. For that, an investor is required to open a Demat Account, to trade for shares, debentures, ETFs, IPOs, equity, derivatives, or any other type of securities. A Demat Account is opened with the depository. In India, we have two depositories i.e. NSDL (National Securities Depository Ltd.) and CDSL (Central Depository Services (India) Ltd.).
